With my new intern Walter I started facing the giant 10ft 6"x12" white oak slabs for my new workbench. Due to space constraints, the bench will need to eventually be cut down to 103" including the endcap. The left hand end will also receive a turtleback Emmert vise and that will unfortunately eat up about 8" worth of length. Oh well…

I treated the @benchcrafted vise hardware for my new white oak workbench with gun bluing and Antique hardening oil while watching a favorite movie - A Few Good Men. This treatment seems to keep light surface rust at bay. I’m hoping it will also work on my favorite @lienielsentoolworks block plane which I did at the same time…

I love my little @lienielsentoolworks block plane. My only issue is that with my sweaty hands the side are constantly rusting. I don’t like rusty fingers! I used to put a thin coat of Jojoba oil, but I also dislike oily fingers. I treated the @benchcrafted vise hardware for my new white oak workbench with gun bluing and Antique oil. It seems to keep light surface rust at bay. I’m hoping it will also work on my favorite little plane!

This is the spindle housing from my Whitney 110 shaper. I removed the spindle to prepare for new bearings. Abec 7 high precision will be expensive but this will double as my router table, so 20k rpm will be used. I like working on machines but I’d rather be making chips or sawdust!

I cut up two walnut logs I’ve had for awhile just waiting. I had trouble with my saw a few months back and then broke my rib. Nothing is ever easy! I got several completely clear 8ft slabs 13"+ wide 10/4. Nice!!

I’ve recently moved to a shelf that sits flush with the top of the stretchers on my benches. It’s way easier to use my brush to clean shavings and whatnot off. I used to set the shelf down an inch or so but it was always full of debris. I suppose the trough approach might be useful on a ship, but unnecessary on dry land where the bench doesn’t move! Hahahahaha.
